German VAT (Umsatzsteuer)

Standard 19% VAT, reduced 7% for certain goods. We handle VAT registration, invoicing with correct Rechnungen format, and periodic VAT filings for sellers without a German entity.

VerpackG Packaging Compliance

Germany requires all sellers to register packaging with the Zentrale Stelle (LUCID). We ensure all outbound packaging is registered and compliant. No unpleasant Abmahnung surprises.

Widerrufsrecht (14-Day Returns)

German consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal — one of the strictest in Europe. We handle return intake, inspection, and refund processing within SLA. Compliant return labels included.

FAQ

Germany Fulfillment Questions

Do I need to register with VerpackG/LUCID to sell in Germany?
Yes. German packaging law (VerpackG) requires all companies that place packaged goods on the German market to register with the Zentrale Stelle (LUCID database) and license their packaging with a dual system like Der Grüne Punkt. Non-compliance can result in an Abmahnung (cease-and-desist) and marketplace bans. We guide you through the registration.
Why are return rates so high in Germany?
Germany has the highest return rate in Europe — around 25% on average, up to 50–60% in fashion. This is cultural: German consumers routinely order multiple sizes or colours with the intention of returning most. Local fulfillment with fast return processing is essential to keep costs manageable and turnaround times short.
Can you also serve Austria and Switzerland from your German hubs?
Yes. The DACH region (Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz) is well-served from our German hubs. Austria is in the EU single market, so no customs overhead. Switzerland requires separate customs declarations — we handle the paperwork including Swiss VAT (MWST) compliance.
What German-specific payment methods should I support?
Klarna (Rechnung/pay-after-delivery) is dominant in Germany — not offering it means losing significant conversion. PayPal, SEPA direct debit, and Sofortüberweisung are also important. While we don't process payments, our CS team is trained to handle payment-related enquiries in German.
